The Cuyahoga Falls Rotary Club was pleased to welcome Christopher J. Richardson as our guest speaker today!

Christopher serves as Executive Director of the Summit County Continuum of Care, where he provides strategic leadership to community-wide efforts focused on preventing and ending homelessness through collaboration, advocacy, innovation, and person-centered solutions.

With more than 30 years of experience in behavioral health, addiction services, healthcare, and community-based organizations, Christopher shared insight from a career dedicated to strengthening organizations, expanding access to care, and improving outcomes for individuals and families facing complex challenges.

His approach to leadership is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and service—values that align closely with Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self.

We’ll start the monthly meetings on October 6th featuring Christopher Richardson. Chris spoke to us several years ago when he represented a different Human Services Organization. Today, he is the Executive Director of Summit County Continuum of Care. "The mission of the Summit County Continuum of Care for the Homeless is to engage organizations in a community-based process that works to end homelessness for all individuals and families throughout Akron/Summit County and address the underlying causes of homelessness and to lessen the negative impact of homelessness on individuals, families, and communities."

🌟 Welcome to Rotary, Lisa Goldstein! 🌟

Yesterday at our Rotary Club of Cuyahoga Falls meeting we had the joy of welcoming our newest member, Lisa Goldstein.

Lisa was pinned by her husband and sponsor, Bob Goldstein — a special moment for both of them and for our club. We’re so glad to have Lisa join our Rotary family and look forward to serving alongside her.

Today at Rotary Club of Cuyahoga Falls we were fortunate to hear from Dr. John D. Stanford, State Director of Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio, and Brianna Booker, Policy Associate.

CDF-Ohio has been Ohio’s independent voice for children since 1981 — especially kids who cannot vote: children in poverty, children of color, and children with disabilities. They use research, lived experience, advocacy, and programs to push for investments before kids get sick, drop out, get into trouble, or experience family breakdown.

They walked us through the work on the ground:

• Expanding the CDF Freedom Schools® movement across Ohio so more children spend summer building literacy, leadership, and joy instead of losing ground

• Advocating for policy and budget choices that center children’s needs in education, health care, economic opportunity, and safety

• Creating higher-education scholarships for young people aging out of foster care

Dr. Stanford brings nearly 30 years of service in public education, higher education, nonprofit leadership, and public policy.

Brianna focuses on maternal and children’s health, nutrition, and organizing.

Grateful they made the trip to Cuyahoga Falls and shared both the data and the heart behind the mission: every child growing up with dignity, hope, and joy.

On September 22nd we’ll have the opportunity to learn about the Children’s Defense Fund. We’ll be meeting John Stanford, the Ohio Director of this essential organization. The Children's Defense Fund (CDF) is a national non-profit organization that champions policies and programs to improve the health, education, and well-being of America's children and youth.

What an inspiring Rotary meeting!

We had the pleasure of hearing from Cheryl Powell, Executive Editor of the Akron Beacon Journal, who shared her insights and perspective on journalism and how the news industry has evolved.

And, of course, we wrapped things up with our raffle!

Do you remember the last time you held a newspaper in your hand or read one while relaxing over your morning coffee? A lot has changed! We’re excited to meet Cheryl Powell, an experienced journalist and leader. She’s been there for a long time and currently holds the position of Executive Editor for the Akron Beacon Journal. We’ll meet her on September 15th.

Today at Rotary we had the chance to meet the person who keeps the Cuyahoga Falls City School District’s books in order!

Kristy Stoicoiu (Stoy-coy) has served as Treasurer since August 2019. Before that she held the same role in Stow-Munroe Falls, Green Local, and Jackson Local Schools. She earned her B.A. in Accounting from Kent State, grew up in Diamond, Ohio, and now lives in Brimfield with her family.

She walked us through what reporting, budgeting, and juggling an ever-changing environment actually looks like. Great conversation—thanks, Kristy!

On September 8th we’ll be enjoying the opportunity to meet Kristy Stoicoiu. She’s the one working behind the scenes as Treasurer for the Cuyahoga Falls School District. She won’t be forcing anyone to read financial statements, but we will learn about what is entailed in reporting, budgeting, and juggling an ever-changing environment. We’re looking forward to this one.
