Alchemy Inc.

Alchemy Inc. Alchemy, Inc. offers a safe group environment for youth to focus on topics directly related to their stage of development.

offers a safe group environment to assist urban male youth in their development via the telling, discussion, and analysis, of mythological stories and fairy tales . . . We emphasize behavior and the character traits necessary for young men to achieve their long-term goals. Our unique and innovative approach uses myth and fairy tales in group discussions of common mythological motifs such as sacrif

ice, trials, conflict resolution, decision-making, perseverance, humility, confidence and strength to promote an understanding of the developmental processes these young men need to emulate in their academic and social behavior.

Bryce Harris was well familiar with Alchemy prior to advocating for bringing the program to youth at Helen Arnold CLC! He is one of many who have also benefited from Alchemy’s professional development workshops and seminars. Alchemy has worked with hundreds of adults here in NE Ohio and around the country in professions and careers ranging from local government to social workers and counselors, to graduate/college students pursuing various paths, first responders and more.

This spring, Alchemy’s Founder/Executive Director Kwame Scruggs visited 6 Akron program sites to sit in on the (sacred circles) with our wildly seasoned facilitators (mentors). NYC-based trainings and a pilot school program have shifted Kwame’s work from the classroom to a focus on program replication, oversight, evaluation and more, so the team of local facilitators/storytellers has been leading the hands-on work with our youth here in Akron. And THEY HAVE GOT THIS! Kwame shares that being in the classrooms was one of “the most rewarding weeks of my life…the facilitators are doing an excellent job and the youth are appreciating them and being in the program.”

This is a team of youth mentors like no other, so of course we knew all of this – but always cool when the lead hero in Alchemy’s own story is on hand to confirm it! 🙂🖤❤️Join in extending big love and gratitude to our team; they have supported thousands of hero journeys over the years, each with their own caring, honest approach to delivery of .

Honor our facilitators and their amazing work with a gift to Alchemy today (or just send them some love here on social)!

“When the king gets sick, the whole village is sick….” Andre McCray facilitates a few of our after-school (“out of school time”) groups this year. He shares student reactions around themes from The Water of Life, a story that frequently shares with younger students just starting the program. Pairing djembe drums and mythological tales? Yes, it’s a thing -- and it works.

For Josiah, it’s not just about the stories, it’s about the time they get to spend together. Fact: youth bond deeply as they learn to communicate and share in healthy new ways through the magic of ancient stories and the lessons imparted. THIS is quality time, spent together. The result: life-long friendships.
