At first glance, a bike might not seem connected to emotional regulation or healthy decision-making—but spend some time with South Street's Bike Shop Coordinator, Lilly Usner, and educator Brian Bortz, and you'll see the connection.

Together, they've created an incredible program that teaches kids not only the fundamentals of bike repair and safe riding, but also valuable social-emotional skills like empathy, feeling recognition, being non-judgmental, and taking action to help others.

This summer, they've been working with our Firehouse Youth Spark participants and bringing their program out into the community, helping young people build confidence, life skills, and stronger connections—one ride at a time. 🚲💚

What does leadership development look like at South Street Ministries?

Oftentimes it is young men and women from our community stepping towards South Street for summer employment!

This summer we have 3 students serving through JOG ( Jobs for Ohio Graduates) and 3 youth who have come through Open Gym and Bike Shop now to serve and lead at Bike Shop!

🌟 Partner Highlight: Towpath Credit Union 🌟

At the heart of every successful reentry journey is a community willing to invest in second chances, and we're grateful to have partners like Towpath Credit Union doing exactly that.

The Towpath team has been a consistent presence at our Tuesday Reentry Meetings, helping justice-impacted individuals overcome one of the first barriers to financial independence by opening bank accounts and gaining access to essential financial services. These simple but meaningful steps help lay the foundation for long-term stability and success.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Kayley and the entire Towpath team for their compassion, commitment, and belief in the people we serve. Thank you for helping create opportunities, restore hope, and strengthen our community—one person at a time. 💚
