This past Saturday was the second annual Firestone Park YMCA Back to School Event!

Hundreds of kids and parents got to stop by and pick up school supplies, get haircuts, physicals, eat lunch, meet and talk to some of our amazing vendor partnerships and all of it was 100% FREE!

Thank you to all that made this event possible including our donors, staff, volunteers, partners, and the Akron Community for making this years Back to School Event a success!

On Drowning Prevention Day, we’re raising awareness about the importance of water safety, swim lessons, and active supervision around the water. Drowning can happen quickly and silently, but together we can help prevent it.

This year marks the 175th anniversary of the YMCA!

Throughout those years the YMCA and the Akron Area YMCA has always been a destination to learn sports and participate as a team.

The Akron Area YMCA has done this through our youth sports and our Riverfront YMCA Gymnastics facility!

From hoops to vaults, the YMCA strives to continue bringing talented individuals together to work as a team for another 175 years!!!

Shout out to our board member Sara Eddy for all of her work organizing the Dragons on the Lake Boat Festival! We loved stopping out to support, and a big thank you to our child care and member services staff member Keisha, who helped shuttle volunteers, teams, and supporters around the Portage Lakes State Park!

This year marks the 175th anniversary of the YMCA!

Throughout those years the YMCA and the Akron Area YMCA has always been a place to swim and learn water safety.

The Akron Area YMCA has primarily done this through our Safety Around Water program. This program has taught children not only how to swim, but how to be safe around pools and bodies of water. We have also had a consistent swim lessons program for all ages.

From indoor swimming lessons to our outdoor Grizzly pool, the YMCA strives to continue keeping pools safe and preventing drownings for another 175 years!!!
