Coyotes have established a den outside of park boundaries near the Tuscarawas Area of Firestone Metro Park. The den is not on park property, however, nearby pedestrian access along Harrington Rd. is not advised.

Coyotes coexist alongside people and are a natural part of our local ecosystem. Like humans, coyote parents are highly protective of their young and may become defensive if they feel a threat is too close. Once the pups have matured, the family will abandon the den and defensive displays from coyotes will cease.

If you encounter a coyote, remain calm, give it plenty of space and slowly leave the area. Respecting them from a safe distance helps protect people, pets and wildlife.
