What does it mean to sponsor a young reader? 💙📚

It means helping a child discover books they love, build confidence, and begin to say:

“I can do this.”

More than books.
More confidence. More curiosity. More children seeing themselves as readers.

“I can do this.” 💙📚

Sometimes the biggest change isn’t measured by the number of books read. It’s the moment a young reader begins to see what he’s capable of.

Every new skill, every proud smile, and every “thank you” tells a story of growing confidence.

And when a community surrounds young readers with books, encouragement, and people who believe in them, more moments like this become possible.

We asked our founder, Lannetta, why she started The Queen’s Project. Her answer begins with one woman—and continues with every young reader we serve. 💙📚

People often ask why I started The Queen’s Project.

The answer begins long before the organization existed.

It begins with my grandmother, Marion F. Walker.

She believed in the power of books. But even more, she believed in children—and in what can happen when a child has someone encouraging them along the way.

Her love of reading shaped who I became.

Today, that legacy continues as young readers discover books they enjoy, build confidence, and begin to see themselves differently:

“I’m a reader.”
“I can do this.”

Marion’s story may have inspired The Queen’s Project, but the children we serve are writing what comes next.

This is The Queen and Me. And the next chapter is just beginning. 💙

Behind every confident reader is someone who believed in them. 💙📚

Our volunteer mentors do more than practice reading skills.

They encourage.
They celebrate progress.
They listen.
They create space for young readers to discover what they’re capable of.

And week by week, children begin to say:

“I can do this.”
“I’m a reader.”

That confidence can reach far beyond the pages of a book.

Another summer of reading, growth, and discovering “I can.” 💙📚

Every certificate represents a young reader who showed up, kept going, and discovered more of what they’re capable of.

Every smile tells a story of progress, connection, and growing confidence.

Along the way, caring mentors, families, generous supporters, and a community that believes in young people were there to encourage them and cheer them on.

The summer program may be over, but these young readers are taking their confidence with them into their next chapter.

💙 Help write the next success story. Your support can create more opportunities for young readers to discover the joy and confidence that come through literacy.

There’s something special about choosing a book that’s yours to keep. 📚💙

At WE CARE CDC’s 5th Annual Backpack Giveaway, children stopped by our Little Free Library, explored the books, and chose the stories that interested them.

That choice matters.

A book can become a new adventure, a favorite character, a reason to keep turning pages—and another opportunity for a child to see themselves as a reader.

We’re grateful to WE CARE CDC for bringing families and community partners together and creating a day filled with opportunities for Akron’s young people.

💙 Help put more books—and more choices—into the hands of young readers. Donate a new book or support The Queen’s Project through the link in our bio.

Legacy can live in the smallest details. 💙

More than 15 years ago, our founder Lannetta created this Ohio installation using authentic license plates to represent the state’s history, identity, and communities.

One plate carries special meaning: her grandmother Marion F. Walker’s license plate represents Summit County.

Long before The Queen’s Project began, her legacy was already finding its way into her work. Today, that same love, history, and connection continue through every child we encourage to read in Summit County.

Help us carry Marion’s legacy forward by supporting a young reader through the link in our bio.

📚 Literacy starts where children are.

One of the things that makes The Marion F. Walker Queen’s Project special is our incredible volunteer mentors.

Each week, they bring their time, patience, and encouragement directly into neighborhoods across our community—meeting young readers where they are, in their own backyards.

Because when families don’t have to travel far, children have greater opportunities to build confidence, strengthen reading skills, and discover the joy of books.

Every lesson. Every smile. Every page turned is possible because of mentors who show up.

💙 Thank you to our amazing volunteers for helping us grow confident readers, one child at a time.
