Winter isn’t done with Northeast Ohio just yet. After an unusually warm stretch this February, overnight temperatures are expected to dip back down to dangerous levels for a few days.

Because of this, the Akron Emergency Overnight Warming Center (EOWC) will remain open for additional nights to help keep our community safe.

Hundreds of people in Greater Akron are still living outside this winter. For 13 years, The Peter Maurin Center has coordinated the 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗘𝗢𝗪𝗖) to give our neighbors a safe, warm place to sleep.

In the past five years alone, the EOWC has provided 𝟱,𝟱𝟬𝟬+ 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝘀 and protected 𝟭𝟭𝟭,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗲𝘀 from the cold.

This year, the opening threshold is increasing from 𝟭𝟱°𝗙 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟱°𝗙, meaning the Center will be open more often — and will need more volunteers and supplies.

Starting October 16th, the PMC will be serving a FREE hot lunch every Thursday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Trinity UCC, 915 N Main Street in North Hill. Entrance is at the back of the church on Oakland.
