Happy Memorial Day. Thank you to all of our veterans.
Thirteen folds.
2.3 pounds.
The weight of a folded flag, measurable in ounces.
But to those left behind, it’s heavier than the world.
Today, on Memorial Day, we gather not simply for a long weekend or the beginning of summer, but for a sacred purpose: to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Memorial Day reminds us that freedom is never free. Behind every flag waving proudly in the breeze is the sacrifice of someone who answered the call of duty with courage, honor, and selflessness. These heroes came from different backgrounds, different towns, and different generations, but they shared one common belief — that something greater than themselves was worth protecting.
Today we remember the soldiers who never returned home to their families. We remember the empty seats at dinner tables, the folded flags handed to grieving loved ones, and the countless dreams left unfinished. Their sacrifice allows us to live in peace, speak freely, and pursue our hopes without fear.
But remembrance is more than words. It is our responsibility to live in a way that honors their legacy — by showing kindness, serving our communities, protecting liberty, and caring for one another as fellow Americans.
As we enjoy this day with family and friends, let us also pause for reflection and gratitude. Let us teach future generations the meaning of sacrifice and the importance of unity. And let us never forget those who paid the ultimate price for our nation.
To all Gold Star families and to all who have lost loved ones in military service, we thank you. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
May we carry the memory of our fallen heroes not only today, but every day.
