🍑 SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT — PLEASE WELCOME PEACHES!
We have a very special new face at Halfway to Heaven Mustang Rescue, and we are so excited to introduce her to you.
Here at the rescue, Mustangs come to us from many different circumstances. Some come directly from BLM adoption events or sales, while others have been passed from owner to owner, found at auctions or kill pens, or simply reached a point where the people who love them can no longer provide the time or care they need.
Whatever road brings them to us, our promise is the same: to give each horse love, patience, excellent care, enrichment, and gentle training—and the opportunity to become the very best version of themselves.
And that brings us to Peaches. 🍑❤️
Peaches is an absolutely adorable 8-year-old Palomino Mustang mare who is every bit as sweet as a ripe Georgia peach!
Her previous owners reached out to us when life became very busy and they realized they simply couldn't give Peaches the time and attention she deserved. Rather than allow her future to become uncertain, they made the responsible and loving decision to transfer her to our rescue. We are incredibly grateful that they trusted us with this special little mare.
But Peaches' story began long before she arrived at Halfway to Heaven.
Peaches was once a wild Mustang in Nevada, living in the Meadow Valley Mountains–Delamar Mountains Herd Management Areas. In 2020, she was removed from the wild during an emergency gather.
Emergency gathers are heartbreaking necessities that can occur when drought and dwindling resources leave wild horses without enough food or water to survive. Sadly, that was the situation facing Peaches' herd.
There are very few photographs from her gather, but during our research we located photographs taken afterward in the holding pens. Based on the information we've been able to piece together, we believe the thin, starving Palomino mare pictured below may very well be Peaches.
It is difficult to look at those photographs and imagine what that little mare had already endured—the hunger, the uncertainty, leaving the only home she had ever known, and suddenly finding herself behind the rails of a holding pen.
And yet, here she is. ❤️
Safe. Loved. And beginning another chapter.
Peaches will now move through our program of rehabilitation, enrichment, and gentle training. We can't wait to watch her confidence grow, discover what she enjoys, and see the beautiful horse she becomes.
