Aiken Corporation to Hold Second Public Meeting On Mixed-Use Project Feasibility Study
The Aiken Corporation will hold a second information session on Thursday, Sept. 21 to collect public input on the feasibility study conducted by architectural firm McMillan Pazdan Smith (MPS) on the proposed mixed-use development project in Aiken.
The Aiken Corporation has also launched a new informational website where residents can learn more about the project, review the feasibility study, and contact the Aiken Corporation with questions or comments: aikenscproject.info
The goal of the proposed development would be to support the growth of the region’s knowledge economy and serve as a catalyst for further economic success in Aiken. The Savannah River National Laboratory has expressed interest in potentially leasing office space in the proposed mixed-use facility should it move forward. The project concept supports a workplace for 75-100 jobs and a ground floor public meeting/event space. The planning team studied the suitability of five potential sites for the project in order to be thorough in their due diligence.
Feedback is welcomed during the meetings and representatives from MPS will be available to answer questions. The first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 14, will be an open house format with a brief presentation to begin followed by an opportunity to speak with the experts and review the findings thus far. The second session will take place on Thursday, Sept. 21, and will consist of an Aiken Corporation Board meeting featuring public comment and questions posed to the board and MPS staff.
Public comments will be accepted at the meetings and later shared with City Council, along with the final feasibility study.
