MALE, 17, DROWNS AT WILDWOOD PARK IN COLUMBIA COUNTY

Columbia County authorities are reporting a drowning Saturday at Wildwood Park, located at 780 Dogwood Lane in Appling. The body of 17-year-old Elijah Lemeuble of Grovetown, has been recovered, authorities said. The call came in to dispatchers at around 7:46 p.m. Saturday.

BACKGROUND: Wildwood Park is a large Columbia County recreational park located in Appling along the shores of Clarks Hill Lake. Spanning roughly 800–975 acres, the park provides public access to the 72,000-acre lake and is considered one of the area’s top destinations for boating, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

The park features more than 60 campsites, multiple boat ramps, hiking and nature trails, picnic areas, and a beach, along with the International Disc Golf Center and championship-level courses.
