A wonderful day today at Ala Moana Beach Park.

One of HBNA’s founders and 2nd President Patricia Ross has died.

From her son Derek Ross.

As much as I knew this day was coming, it doesn't make it any easier. They say not all heroes wear capes. Mine happened to wear Army green for over 30 years and I called her Mom. Thursday, May 11th at 7:12pm the Colonel officially retired and received her wings. She had a tough life the past 7 years. She dealt with debilitating nerve pain, a surgery that didn't yield the intended results, numerous infections which required hospital stays, and finally severe dementia which she couldn't fight through any longer. Over her lifetime she touched and counseled many people. Whether it was in the military, her personal life and especially her family life she never failed to leave positive insights to those who needed them. It was tough to watch her body and mind fail her, but her spirit will always live on. She was able to have a loving relationship with her granddaughters and they would bring joy to her heart everytime they entered her presence. I love you Mom and will miss you, but I know you're dancing with your mother, father, sister and brother all pain-free behind the heavanly gates. Keep smiling and I'll see you again...but not yet. You have answered the final call and you are now retired. My mother The Colonel Patricia W. Ross, Ret you'll never be forgotten.

Thank you for your advocacy efforts!

Roughly 40 percent of students buy a snack at school each day. Even if students eat a healthy lunch, research shows they often still consume excess calories from side dishes their cafeteria might serve, such as french fries.
