Meet Lainey.
Lainey came to Eastern Madera County SPCA from one of the most challenging animal shelters imaginable. From the moment she arrived, I fell in love with her warm smile, gentle eyes, and wonderfully balanced temperament.
Over the year, Lainey has become much more than just my dog. She became a member of our team.
Every day, Lainey came to work alongside me, helping frightened, confused, and often traumatized shelter animals learn that the world could be safe again. She has greeted countless dogs with patience, kindness, and understanding. She never starts a fight, never escalates a conflict, and never seeks trouble. Her quiet confidence has helped nervous dogs become steadier around other animals and more comfortable around people.
In many ways, Lainey has been one of our most successful ambassadors for rehabilitation. She has shown adopters, volunteers, and staff that dogs can heal, trust again, and learn to live peacefully with others. Her loving nature has played a small but meaningful role in helping increase adoptions and giving countless animals a better chance at finding a forever home.
Recently, Lainey was attacked by a dog running at large. The dog reportedly left its property, traveled a considerable distance, jumped my fence, and attacked her in her own yard.
Today, Lainey is receiving medical care. Unfortunately, we still do not have many answers about why she is experiencing the pain and mobility issues she is facing. We are continuing to work with veterinarians and search for those answers while doing everything we can to keep her comfortable and help her heal.
For now, our beloved coworker is on medical leave.
The center feels a little quieter without her gentle presence. The dogs who have relied on her guidance don't understand where she is, and neither do we.
Please keep Lainey in your thoughts as she recovers. We are hopeful that before long she will once again be walking through our doors, ready to help the next frightened shelter dog discover that kindness still exists.
We love you, Lainey, and we can't wait to have you back on the job.
