in 1958, Prince Rogers Nelson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prince was one of most well-known and versatile musicians in the history of American popular music. His music awakened the collective senses of a generation, transcending boundaries of race, gender, and musical genre.

He was a sonic pioneer who drew from an array of African American musical traditions including soul, funk, jazz, blues, rock, and gospel. Known for highly versatile and dynamic live performances, Prince inspired a generation of artsists and creatives to bend the limits of expression; musically, creatively, and more. This summer, immerse yourself in our exhibition, which explores how pioneers like Prince and his influences, contemporaries contributed to the cultural phenomena of Afrofuturism.
