Meet the charities of the Education Empowerment 5k!
All You Need is Love is based in Mae Sot Thailand, where they work to support the success of Burmese migrant children by providing them with a school environment which inherently offers them safety, wellness, education, and inspiration.

All You Need is Love has an exciting opportunity! We will be participating in the Education Empowerment 5k hosted in Vero Beach, Florida! We are co-sponsoring the race with three other like minded organizations that support education initiatives locally and abroad.

You can show your support in the following ways:

1) we are looking for corporate sponsors to pledge donations in various amounts (PM us!). All proceeds will go directly to the participating charities and help offset race costs. Sponsors will receive recognition for their contributions on race media (t-shirts, web site, banners at the race, etc.) and at the upper tiers of sponsorship will receive additional perks such as free race entries and t-shirts.

2) Sign-up for the race, THERE IS A VIRTUAL OPTION! Race participants can sign-up for the race and run/walk the 5k any time in the week leading up to the event. Please grab a group of friends, families, colleagues, etc. and help us support a great cause

The Education Empowerment 5K is on Saturday May 28, 2022. It includes the following events: Individual 5K, Team, and Virtual 5K.

BEARING WITNESS to

On February 1, 2021,the military junta took away control of the government from the elected Democratic Party by baselessly claiming there was widespread election fraud. The elected NLD party leader Aung San Suu Kyi and many others have been arrested or “detained” and falsely charged with crimes manufactured by the military.

The liberation of Burmese people from a historically oppressive and violent military regime is at stake. The democratic systems that provide safety and basic human rights to Burmese people are on the verge of collapse.

The students and communities who are served by All You Need is Love have already been harshly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of our students found themselves stuck in Burma after borders were closed; families that remained in Mae Sot lost their jobs as factories shut down. Migrant schools were not allowed to operate in a normal fashion. The impact of the two aforementioned crises severely impairs our primary mission: providing Burmese migrant children with access to quality education.

BEARING WITNESS to
In an extension of our primary mission, we feel that it is our duty to bear witness to our communities at this time by amplifying their voices and advocating for action on their behalf. In the last two weeks, we have received news of the following:

👍Daily peaceful protests are occuring on the border in Mae Sot and provinces and in Burma. Protests are led by women, young adults, and children. All groups are represented: teachers, doctors, body builders, LGBTQ+, etc.

The military junta are relying on old tactics (used in 1988) in an attempt to manipulate and instill fear amongst the people of Myanmar. The following tactics have been reported at this time:
🚫Blocks on cell/internet communication and censorship of social media sites. These sites provide a way for protesters to gather and share information with the world. (As of 02/14 the internet is shut off every night at 9pm.)
🚫Using brute force and violence by means of: fi****ms, harming protesters, deploying pepper spray, use of high powered water tanks to disband/injure protesters, setting fire to buildings in the city.
🚫Increased presence of armed military personnel and combat vehicles in cities
Releasing violent prisoners (many of them drugged or manipulated) and to create panic in different parts of the city (burn homes and otherwise cause chaos).
Paying and drugging CHILDREN to pollute potable water with poison and create fires.
🚫Conducting *unwarranted raids and arrests targeting: protest and Civil Disobedience Movement leaders/organizers, journalists, etc.

Just like the rest of the world, Mae Sot is experiencing the insecurity of Covid 19. Our school year usually starts the 1st week of June, but we are closed for the time being as our students and their families wait to hear next steps for migrant education from the Thai Ministry. In the meantime, the teachers have hit the streets and brought school to the villages through a program called Home Base Learning, which was formed as a response to the closures by a group of CBO's, NGO's, parents, and teachers.

All You Need is Love is devastated to learn of Toni Waho's passing. He is an example of how one person can create a ripple effect that changes the course of life for others. His work in education and Maori language revitalization impacted Aotearoa and far beyond. We are grateful that he shared his knowledge and love with our community. We will forever cherish the good deeds he did for so many and the connection he facilitated between Mana Tamariki and Good Morning School.
Rest in peace Toni.
