Hope Valley Farmers members enjoyed a fabulous farm walk on the lower slopes below Win Hill to see the fantastic work that one of our farmer members has done to create valuable wildlife corridors. We saw wild bird food margins, tree copses, new tree shelterbelts, species rich hay meadows, managed scrub areas and new hedges. All these important habitats help wildlife to move around the farmed environment and also enhance the landscape.
We were joined by Helen Perkins of Hope Parish Wildlife Group who informed us of all the species their volunteer surveyors have recorded across the Hope Parish and the different surveys they have carried out to establish a better picture of how wildlife is faring in the area.
Sally Pereira who coordinates the local parish hedgehog partnership highlighted the plight of hedgehogs across the UK and she explained some simple steps everyone can take to help to protect this much loved declining species on their farms.
