Thank you everyone for waging war with your w**ds! Things are soon going to start going to seed. Come talk to us about a product called Es**rt! It helps stop the germination of new plants by affecting the seed. It is not labeled for your lawn, but those of you with pastures, give it a try!

It's Dyer's Woad Week! Come get your bags today at 10:00 am and pick, pick, pick!
Some tips and tricks for making the most of your dyer's woad week:
-Use only clear bags given to you by the W**d and Pest
-Pull the plants from the roots (the root is the heavy part and will make you the most money)
-Do NOT put rock or lots of dirt in your bag as your bag will not be weighed and you will not receive money
-Pick dyer's woad only in Lincoln County, not Idaho
-Get land owner permission before entering property
-$0.50 per pound

When you're out there picking your Dyer's Woad, if you're not certain it's Dyer's Woad, please bring in a sample. We would hate for you to pick for hours and then have the wrong plant in your bag. We aren't paying for time, we're paying for woad.

Some common w**ds we see during Dyer's Woad week that we can't pay for are Black Mustard and Leafy Spurge. Black Mustard is not on our Noxious W**d list. Leafy Spurge is, but it has a horrible root that if you break it, two or three plants grow back from the broken root.

We really want to pay your kids as they bring in the dyer's woad, so please, if you're not sure, bring us a sample before you pick the whole field!

Below are pictures of Leafy Spurge, Black Mustard and Dyer's Woad for reference and comparison.

Why is Dyer's Woad so bad?? Let me tell you.

Dyer's Woad can only be controlled by humans. There is no insect or animal in the western United States that will eat it. The plant lets out a deadly chemical into the soil that kills all of the native plants around it. One plant is capable of producing up to 1,000 seeds which can survive in the soil for up to 10 years. Dyer's Woad has a tap root that can be up to 5 feet long. It is responsible for destroying thousands of acres in the western United States and making them completely unusable to wildlife and live stock and killing native plants.

If there's ever been a bad w**d in Lincoln County, it's this one! Please participate in Dyer's Woad Week! We are starting Monday, June 22nd. You can pick up your orange bags at the W**d and Pest office in Afton at 10 AM.
