Pictured above is the Masonic Picnic Grounds in 1939.

The Masonic Picnic Grounds was first founded in April of 1850, and the once-famous picnics began in 1878. An idea came about from local churches hosting Sunday School picnics that they would begin to host picnics where the proceeds from refreshments would be sent to the Oxford Orphanage. These picnics continued to grow and grow.

'The old proverb, "Great oaks from little acorns grow," is clearly proven in the growth of the Masonic Picnic at Mocksville, which under the majestic oaks of Clement Grove has developed from a small community gathering to one of the biggest events of the year in Piedmont Carolina.' - Mary J. Heitman
