In the United States, 97.1% of the population is comprised of immigrants or descendants of immigrants, according to the most recent U.S. Census. Millions of immigrants continue to move to the United States, with individuals coming from Mexico, India, China, and the Philippines. The United States has a history of being a place where immigrants place their hopes because of its access to education, practice of religious freedom, and the prospect of economic stability. As we celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month, we are reminded of the incredible courage it takes to leave everything familiar and start anew. Immigrants and refugees enrich our society with new perspectives, innovation, and vibrant traditions. Letβs use this month to honor those stories and advocate for a compassionate, fair, and welcoming community.
