30th Anniversary of the VCCA Region Six Bluebonnet Club!
Celebrated at Saltgrass Steakhouse on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

An amazing group representing present and former members gathered to commemorate a significant in the club’s history of memorable Chevy travels, fellowship and club meetings.

Thank you ladies! Everyone enjoyed looking through the numerous scrapbooks compiled throughout the years, which showcased the club’s activities. We extend our gratitude to Wanda and Anne for their contributions of the beautiful cakes and for securing the venue. We also thank Bill for making the Chevy table placemats!
Sylvia’s enjoyable slideshow presentation was also a highlight of the celebration. And, Michael narrated an interesting video created by Jam Handy Films, “The Rainbow is Yours-1951” which highlighted the new colors available for your 1951. Beautiful cars and colors!

Most importantly, we acknowledge the unwavering leadership of Micheal and Gayle, who have guided the club through challenging times, even as membership has declined due to the passing of cherished members. Their dedication and commitment have ensured the club’s continued longevity. We fondly remember those who have passed away but remain an integral part of our club’s legacy.

Forgot to mention that the Bluebonnet crew (Lugo, Martinez and Shockey) made the wise decision to skip the Friday tour due to weather conditions for Saturday, which was our original departure date. Sad to leave😢

In the words of Mike Shockey…’see you down the road!’

If they were to give away awards for running out of gas, Steve would be the winner🏆
Or, how about an award for a freaky situation!?!
Martin pulled over to check what was dragging under the trailer…in disbelief he saw the top of a ladder!!! Steve and him kept pulling on it to get it out since the rest of the ladder was mangled and stuck. See picture😱

Day 4: 82.9 miles - Hot Day!
Drove to the quaint town of Guthrie, OK., which interestingly was the Territorial Capital from 1889 to 1907. Oklahoma became a state in 1907 and Guthrie became the State Capitol from 1907 to 1910. In 1910 the Capitol was moved to Oklahoma City.
Guthrie has a lot of antique stores and I found a few unique items to bring home!

Our first stop in Guthrie was to the Scottish Rite…a huge building with a lot of over the top decor and furnishings. I was not aware of any of the specifics of this place, however once the guides began talking I was surprised it is the temple of the free masons😮

We had a great catered lunch in the building that used to be part of the Capitol. I did not take photos 😢

Next stop was for cake and drinks. Then back to the hotel. We had supper at one of the must visit OSU popular restaurants, Eskimo Joe’s. Food was great!

Severe weather for tomorrow so the Lugo, Shockey and Martinez families are leaving early Friday morning….cutting our trip by one day.

Day 3 - 113.5 Miles - Southern Spring Tour
Ponca City:
It bit warmer today which made the miles seem longer! Ponca City, which originally was named New Ponca City in 1893. Indian Tribes associated with Ponca City are Kaw, Osage, Otoe-Missouria, Ponca, Pawnee, and Tonkawa. Population today 24,424.
We first took three laps on the original Ponca City Grand Prix track…of course, at a much slower speed😉 In the 1960’s only three cities had racing on public streets: Ponca City, Long Beach and Detroit. Currently, a racing is done in Tulsa, leaving this track to memorialize the past.

We then drove to the Pioneer Woman Museum which commemorates the hard working woman which helped formulate the future of our country by their inspiring determination, strength and love of family. There is so much amazing history in this museum…so proud of the many women that came before us to pave the way for us.
Oil Man E. W. Marland, was instrumental in establishing this museum and commissioning several artists to create the perfect statue to honor the woman who braved western expansion and broke down barriers.
We continued to the amazing Marland Mansio for lunch and a tour…too much to explain so will try it with photos!
From the mansion, we continued to the Conoco Museum which provided additional information on the collaboration between Conoco Gas and Marland Gas = Conoco.
Th group then drove to the 101 Ranch Museum. Sadly, we did not go there…tired drivers wanted to get back to hotel.
