Our Strong Families Chicago team is also a LIFELINE!! We have had families experiencing crisis. Recently, three families-each impacted by immigration-related job loss- received crucial rental assistance totaling over $7,900. These families who were stable had life altering disruptions and with deepest gratitude to Lanetta Williams and Shirley Santos for their care and commitment to ensure applications were processed with urgency, diligence and compassion.

I have to share what our parents are stating and documenting regarding our amazing team members! This email is sent to MANY variations of constituents that are invested in our Strong Families program. ALL of us are moved and motivated when we hear a parent speak with emotion in their voice, about our Family Support Specialist in Willowbrook, Marquitta, "She saved my life. She makes me feel like I can be something more than I am right now." This heartfelt gratitude captures the essence of her work in the community and her commitment that goes far beyond job duties. Marquitta and Vania (Family Support Specialist in Willowbrook) are also hosting Parent Cafe Nights. Families are quoted as saying "These are more than just meetings, they are safe havens." "I feel deeply encouraged", "This is a safe space-and that's what it's all about." and lastly one parent stated, "It was the best feeling in the world to be part of the Parent Cafe".

Our Willowbrook team was happy to take part in our monthly partnership with the Avanath community. Caregivers spoke with Marquitta and Vania about home visiting services, ways to get connected in the community through Parent Cafe and supported the caregivers in enrolling in Basics- developmental milestone tool for caregivers with children birth to five. Families were given resources for water safety and were able to stay to play a game of connect 4.

We painted pots with various colors! All of us had so much fun painting we didn’t realize how messy our hands and faces were! Such a beautiful moment to capture the family laugh and paint together as the kids kept saying “mom this is a lot of fun, I like when Vania comes and visits, she gets us all together. I love when we do things together”. This moment was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes, and it made me fall in love with my work!
