Plainfield Little Theatre

Plainfield Little Theatre Board of Directors: Thomas Blachly, Susannah Blachly, Adam Blachly It has been best known over the years for staging the operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan.

The Plainfield Little Theatre has been active in Plainfield, Vermont since 1930, offering lectures, concerts, puppet shows, plays, one-acts, and musicals, including some original works by local playwrights. The company was active until 1956, presenting up to four plays each year, but interest declined and in 1970 its extensive collection of authentic period costumes was donated to the Montpelier T

heater Guild. In 1974, the Plainfield Little Theatre was revived with a production of Bernard Shaw's Arms and the Man, and remained very active throughout the 1970s and 1980s as one of only a handful of community theater groups in Central Vermont. Recent interest in yet another revival of the Plainfield Little Theatre has coincided with some discussions among a number of area visual and performing artists about the need for more studio and performance spaces in and around Plainfield. PLT board members are actively involved in exploring the creation of an "arts center" or "arts council" based at Goddard College. The purpose of this organization would be to facilitate the development and co-operative use of local venues, and to generally promote the work of local artists and performers.
