⚙️ INITIATING: SPAGHETTI SQUAD

A youth-led maker collective where ideas turn into prototypes… and sometimes into glorious spaghetti.

Powered by Firestorm and Frostbite robotics students, this group flips the script — kids aren’t just learning, they’re leading, mentoring, and building.

Expect:
• 3D printing help
• Robot brains (and occasional chaos)
• Real-world design thinking
• Peer-led problem solving

And if your kid is into 3D printing but gets stuck, they won’t be stuck for long — there’s always someone here who’s been there and can help them push through.

This is what happens when you give young engineers tools and get out of the way.

Warning: may produce future engineers.

This week Cherokee Makerspace salutes our 2 robotics teams, Firestorm Robotics and the Atlanta Droids! In January, these teams came out victorious in their league tournament - with the Firestorm Robotics team holding down second place in the OPR rankings!

Both teams will compete this weekend at the Georgia FIRST Robotics Statewide Championship with 36 other teams!! Break a leg, y’all!!

A Minor Speedbump and an Awesome Build!

One of our members has an exceptionally cool job that keeps him immersed in the Maker experience. His team has been using RTK GPS instruments in support of a railyard modernization project and they identified a need for better protective enclosures/shells for their sensitive equipment.

Our member mocked up a plywood model which served adequately well, but for looks (and weight?), Management suggested 3D printing a 2.0 version. Enter Cherokee Makerspace!

Using one of our Anycubic resin printers, the Photon Mono X, he has knocked out a new version that is sleek and stylish. Check out the attached photos!!

Unfortunately, an unlucky snag damaged the FEP membrane on the printer and took it out of commission before the production run was complete on the 10+ shells required.

Not to worry, tho, with the manufacturer's repair video on Youtube, a bit of diminutive fastener wrangling, and a cheap 5 pack of replacement films was all that stood in the way of progress.

Good job!

As we gather together this season of Thanksgiving, we reflect on the incredible journey we've traveled. From humble beginnings to where we are today, it's been a path paved with challenges, setbacks, and, yes, moments of doubt. Yet, through it all, we’ve shown resilience and unity, finding strength in each other and in our shared purpose.

Together, we’ve faced trials and tribulations that tested our resolve. There were moments when the road seemed steep, and the obstacles overwhelming. But through the unwavering support of our sponsors, the dedication of our members, and the tireless efforts of our volunteers, we’ve not only survived but thrived.

This is a testament to what we can accomplish when we come together as a community. Each of you—whether behind the scenes or front and center—has played a crucial role in helping us rise above and continue moving forward. Your commitment and belief in our mission are what keep us going, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

As we sit at the table this Thanksgiving, know that we are not just giving thanks for the successes we've achieved, but for the strength, determination, and love that have carried us through every challenge.

Thank you for being the heart and soul of everything we do. Here’s to the journey ahead, and to many more triumphs together.

🚀 Exciting Visit to Firestorm Robotics! 🚀

Today, we were excited to welcome Dr. Erin Jacobs and Joy Silk from the Cherokee County School District for a special tour of our Robotics Program and our cutting-edge makerspace.💡🤖

From hands-on demonstrations of student-built robots to showcasing the innovative tools and technologies that fuel creativity and problem-solving, it was a great opportunity to highlight how we're empowering students to explore STEM and develop valuable skills for the future.

We were honored to have several distinguished guests in attendance, including Rep. Charlice Byrd, Brenda Beebe of Sequoyah Chiefs Robotics, John Witzigreuter, Justin Monzon, Terri Talton, and Dave Etchells. Our 2024 Governor's Honors Engineering Design Finalist Alexis Cua and FTC team mentors Andrew Cua, Harrison Forsythe, and Elijah Wells.

A big thank you to our dedicated educators and talented students who continue to push the boundaries of innovation!

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to inspire the next generation of engineers, creators, and thinkers! 🌟
