From donated parts to a fully functional machine! 🛠️
When a broken 3D printer was donated to Cherokee Makerspace, we turned it into a teaching moment for one of our robotics team members. After a few hours of troubleshooting, repairing, and testing with our Spaghetti Squad 3D printing group, it’s printing like a charm—and heading home with its new owner!
This is what community and hands-on STEM learning are all about. 🙌

Three years ago, Waylon didn't know CAD, 3D printing, or how to sell online. Today, as an incoming junior, he's an Etsy Star Seller, a Certified OnShape Professional, and a Governor's Honors Program Semi-Finalist in Engineering.

On July 20, he's teaching it forward.

A Firestorm and Frostbite robotics team member spent last Sunday rescuing an old donated 3D printer at the makerspace.

Diagnosing bad wiring, adjusting rollers, leveling the bed, figuring out why the gantry was fighting itself — the usual “free printer” experience.

Learning to repair a printer makes you way better at using one. You start understanding why prints fail instead of just restarting them and hoping the filament gods are in a good mood.

Best part: when he gets it fully working, he gets to bring it home. Solid trade deal for a few hours of troubleshooting and grease-covered hands.

⚙️ INITIATING: SPAGHETTI SQUAD

A youth-led maker collective where ideas turn into prototypes… and sometimes into glorious spaghetti.

Powered by Firestorm and Frostbite robotics students, this group flips the script — kids aren’t just learning, they’re leading, mentoring, and building.

Expect:
• 3D printing help
• Robot brains (and occasional chaos)
• Real-world design thinking
• Peer-led problem solving

And if your kid is into 3D printing but gets stuck, they won’t be stuck for long — there’s always someone here who’s been there and can help them push through.

This is what happens when you give young engineers tools and get out of the way.
