YOU JUST CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP! ! !💜✝️💟
About a month ago, while going through my latest storm, I received some incredible and humbling news: Purdue would be honoring me with a Walter Jordan Bobblehead Night.
I literally broke down in tears…
I thought about my parents. My family. My teammates, classmates and close friends. The people who have inspired me, encouraged me, prayed for me, believed in me and loved me through this journey.💕
And above everything, I thought about God’s amazing favor, grace and mercy throughout my life. Even in the middle of another storm, He gave me another reason to say, “Thank You, Lord!”🙏🏾
My heart went back to 312 E. Masterson Street…
Ten kids. Mom and Dad. Three bedrooms. Seven boys in one room. Three girls on another. One bathroom. One bathtub. We didn’t have much, but that little house held a whole lot of life, love and dreams.
In the fifth grade, my big dream was simply to wear a uniform and make the team.
I got cut.
Tried again in the sixth grade… got cut again.
In the seventh grade, I played on the “Comedy Squad” at halftime.
That little boy could never have imagined a night like this.
From dreaming of wearing a uniform… to being honored at Mackey Arena.
YOU JUST CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!
I am DEEPLY HUMBLED, INCREDIBLY HONORED AND FOREVER GRATEFUL.
A heartfelt thank-you to Coach Matt Painter, the Purdue Alumni Club, and all of Boiler Nation. Thank you for remembering me, embracing me and giving my family and me a moment we will treasure forever.💘
To everyone who has poured into my life: when I see that bobblehead, I’ll be thinking of YOU. Your love, your prayers, your lessons and your belief helped me keep going.
And Mom and Dad… your boy’s heart is full.
