When trouble comes, does it drive us farther from God—or bring us back to Him?

Pastor Wayne Wilson concludes 1 Samuel by contrasting the final paths of Saul and David.

God providentially protects David from participating in the battle against Israel. Then, after returning to find Ziklag burned and the families taken captive, David faces grief, blame, and the possibility of being stoned by his own men. In that moment, **“David strengthened himself in the Lord his God”** (1 Samuel 30:6).

Saul’s troubles drove him farther from God, but David’s troubles brought him back. This message reminds us that even when we stumble, we can return to the Lord, trust His providence, and rest in His promise to work all things together for good.

What should we do when God seems silent?

In Pastor Wayne Wilson’s message **“When God Is Silent,”** we examine the sobering account of King Saul in 1 Samuel 28. Facing fear and uncertainty, Saul wanted guidance from God—but he did not want to humble himself, repent, or obey God’s Word.

This message reminds us that when answers do not come immediately, we are called to pray, examine our hearts, remain faithful to Scripture, and wait upon the Lord. God welcomes those who come to Him with humble and contrite hearts.

Watch this week’s sermon and be encouraged to trust God—even in the silence.

How can someone demonstrate remarkable faith one day and then make a fear-driven decision the next?

Pastor Wayne Wilson teaches from 1 Samuel 26–27, examining both the strength and inconsistency of David’s faith during his years as a fugitive.

In 1 Samuel 26, David once again refuses an opportunity to kill Saul. He will not seize the throne through vengeance but trusts God to fulfill His promise in His own time. David recognizes that Saul is the Lord’s anointed and leaves Saul’s life—and his own future—in God’s hands.

Yet in the next chapter, David’s faith falters. Convinced that Saul will eventually kill him, he seeks safety among the Philistines without first seeking the Lord. What begins as a fear-driven decision leads to deception, manipulation, and increasingly troubling compromises.

David’s story reminds us that genuine believers can experience spiritual victories and painful failures. Yesterday’s faithfulness does not remove today’s need to trust God. When we rely on Him, we are freed from fear, dishonesty, manipulation, and the burden of trying to control every outcome ourselves.

How should believers respond when anger threatens to take control—and how can we lovingly correct someone who is heading toward sin?

Pastor Wayne Wilson teaches from 1 Samuel 25, where David’s response to Nabal’s insult reveals the destructive power of uncontrolled anger. Although David had recently shown remarkable mercy toward Saul, he now allows wounded pride and a desire for revenge to lead him toward bloodshed.

God graciously intervenes through Abigail—a discerning, courageous, and humble woman who prevents David from making a terrible mistake. Rather than attacking or humiliating him, Abigail respectfully appeals to David’s faith, character, and future calling. Her wise words awaken his conscience and turn him away from vengeance.

This message challenges us to examine our anger, receive correction with humility, and lovingly speak truth when others begin wandering from what they know is right. It also reminds us to leave justice in God’s hands: we do not need to avenge ourselves when we can trust the Lord to judge rightly.
