Calling South Fork Valley Heritage Families

The Acme Heritage Foundation is beginning a community effort to document and preserve the stories, photographs, records, and family histories that shaped the South Fork Valley.

We are seeking descendants and relatives of the area's early pioneer and settler families, including members of the Rapperswyll Colony and families connected to the original homesteads and land claims in the Park, Acme, and Wickersham as our first focus area. Our primary focus is 1880's - 1930 (the valleys first 50 years)

Families identified in early records include, but are not limited to:
• Zobrist (Fritz/Fred and Godfried Zobrist)
• Galbraith
• McCarty
• Stephens
• Lewis
• Cain
• Angel
• Howard
• Jones
• Baylis
• Boedecker
• Eiermann
• Becker
• Moran
• Mizner
• Curtis
• Turkington
• Peavey
• Elsbree

We are particularly interested in: 📸 Historic photographs📜 Family documents, letters, diaries, and deeds 🗺️ Stories of settlement and community life 🏠 Information about historic buildings, farms, businesses, and schools 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family connections to the South Fork Valley and Acme area.

The Acme Heritage Foundation will host an initial discussion and listening session on the weekend of July 11, by invite only to heritage family members who are interested, to explore ways we can work together to preserve and share our community's history. We will have another announcement for volunteers in the community to be a part of this at a later time.

If your family has ties to any of these early settlers, or if you know someone who does, please contact us by July 3rd so we can include you in the discussion.

Together, we can ensure the stories of the South Fork Valley are preserved for future generations.

Please comment below, send a private message, or email [email protected] by July 3rd.

Welcome to the Acme Heritage Foundation.

My husband and myself are residents of Acme and have long believed that our community's history deserves to be preserved. For years, I admired the historic Acme Motor Company property and often said that if it ever became available, I would do everything I could to save it. When the opportunity finally arose, I stepped forward and purchased the property because I believe Acme's historic places matter.

The Acme Heritage Foundation was created to preserve the stories, landmarks, and historic structures that helped shape our community. Too often, historic buildings are lost to neglect, disaster, or development. Once they are gone, they can never be replaced. Our goal is to ensure that Acme's history is preserved, interpreted, and shared with future generations.

Our first project is the preservation of the historic Acme Motor Company property at 2071 Valley Highway. This site represents an important chapter in Acme's history and provides an opportunity to demonstrate how historic preservation can benefit an entire community.

Working with local partners and government agencies, we will be pursuing flood mitigation efforts to protect the property's historic structures while researching and documenting its history. Over time, we hope to create a welcoming space that supports local artisans, educational programs, heritage interpretation, community gatherings, and opportunities for local enterprise.

This vision is about more than preserving buildings. It is about preserving the spirit of Acme, celebrating the people who built this community, and creating opportunities that help it thrive for generations to come.

We invite community members to share photographs, stories, historical information, and ideas as we begin this journey together. We also welcome volunteers, preservation partners, artisans, and anyone who believes in protecting Acme's unique heritage.

Thank you for joining us as we work to preserve Acme's past and invest in its future.
