This weekend we celebrated community, love, black resilience, black entrepreneurship and the emancipation of the enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas when Union troops arrived on June 19th 1865 to announce that the Civil War had ended and that these last documented enslaved people were legally free❗🖤✊🏾
The saying, "You can plan a pretty picnic but you can't predict the weather" rings so true because the weather surely was not on our side! We knew we wouldn't be able to run all of our games, activities and giveaways, however we refused to cancel to allow all of our wonderful vendors who traveled near and far, a chance to showcase their businesses, network and serve our community❗ Due to the rain, many who had delicate merchandise were not able to set up, so we hope to host another community day soon where we can invite all of our vendors back to reach the rest of Choctaw that missed out❗
A huge thank you to all of the vendors and volunteers who withstood the wind and rain for hours to make sure we could serve all whom we could. And an even bigger thank you to the community who came out to support them❗
