☕Join us for this month’s Perk Up & Learn Coffee Hour on Friday, August 21, 9–10 AM at the Virginia Cooperative Extension office 7247 Young Street, Machipongo!

We’re covering fall & winter garden planning and hosting a community plant & seed exchange. Bring something to swap if you’d like—participation is welcome even if you come empty‑handed.

We’ll cover:
• Fall garden planning
• Cool‑season vegetables
• Succession planting (Aug–Oct)
• Overwintering crops with a focus on garlic
• Fall insects & diseases
• Soil health, testing & cover crops
• Cold stratification of seeds, particularly native plants

Enjoy hot coffee, practical tips, and great conversation with fellow Eastern Shore gardeners.
Free & open to the public.

Seen any monarchs lately?

Fall migration for monarch butterflies begins in mid-August and runs to mid-November. As they prepare for their long journey to Mexico or California, watch for monarchs fueling up on nectar from late-blooming plants like aster, blazing star, boneset, goldenrod, hyssop and more!

🌾 Celebrate Local Agriculture at the 2026 Eastern Shore Agricultural Fair!

Virginia Cooperative Extension is excited to partner with the ESVA Chamber for this year’s Agricultural Fair—bringing friendly competition, community pride, and the best of Eastern Shore harvests together in one place.

Join us on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Old Northampton Middle School Grounds in Machipongo, VA for a full lineup of Crop & Garden Competitions, including:

🎃Largest Pumpkin
🫑Vegetable Basket
🌺Cut Flower Floral Arrangement
🌽Row Crops (Field Corn & Soybeans)
🐝Extracted Honey

Open to youth (18 & under) and adults (19+) from Accomack and Northampton Counties.
Enter one category or enter them all—just bring your entries by 10:00 a.m. on fair day.

This is your chance to showcase your hard work, celebrate the Shore’s agricultural heritage, and enjoy a fun, family‑friendly day with neighbors and friends.

Meet Accomack Virginia Cooperative Extension new Administrative and Fiscal Assistant Amaris Mazziott.

Amaris has previous experience in bookkeeping and business management, as well as strong skills in administrative support, human resources, and public relations.
