Caring for the Places that Care for Us

Public lands, such as Piscataway Park, give us so much - places to explore, new friends in our community, history to learn, and a river to enjoy.

On National Public Lands Day, we're returning the favor. Join the Accokeek Foundation for a morning of hands-on stewardship as we do some habitat restoration through invasive plant removal.

We will begin at 10am on Sunday, September 27. As a thank you, all volunteers will receive one, fee-free coupon allowing free entry into any National Park.

And if you can't join us on Sunday, don't worry! We will continue every Tuesday through Friday until October 9th to ensure everyone has a chance to join in! And rest assured, you will still be eligible to receive one, fee-free coupon on these days as well.

So come for an hour. Stay for the morning. Leave the park a little better than you found it. Sign up here -> https://volunteer.bloomerang.co/JE/3bq4wxhpuxs1m0 or click the link in our bio and we look forward to stewarding with you!

Last Wednesday, August 26, the Accokeek Foundation gathered with partners, supporters, and community members to dedicate a Maryland 250 Liberty Tree, a living symbol connecting Maryland’s revolutionary history with our ongoing responsibility to care for the land and the stories it holds.

The Liberty Tree tradition dates back to the American Revolution, when trees became gathering places and symbols of resistance, self-government, and the revolutionary idea that people could shape their own future. The dedication also honored the generations of community effort that have helped protect and preserve this important landscape. For generations, the Accokeek Foundation has served as a steward of cooperation, bringing together tribal, federal, and state leaders, conservation and preservation partners, and community members around a shared commitment to this place.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the occasion so meaningful. The Liberty Tree will continue to grow as a living reminder of our shared history and of the stewardship we carry forward for generations to come.
