Big smiles and brighter futures ahead!!!

Thanks to generous support from Appalachian Power, Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Charities received grant funding to help purchase dental equipment for seven new (additional) operatories currently under construction at Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Center. This "Powering Smiles" investment will help expand access to high-quality dental care for patients across our region. Currently, AHCDC has 3,000 individuals waiting to schedule dental services.

We're grateful to Henry Schein Cares for donating a FormLab System to support the work of the Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Charities. This advanced technology will help strengthen AHCDC's dental lab with the ability to deliver high-quality care and expand the dental lab services we provide to our community.

Dear Friends,
You may have heard The Secular Society Committed $150,000 to Expand Dental Care in Southwest Virginia — Community Support Needed to Unlock Funds. Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Charities (AHCDC) is proud to announce a transformative pledge from The Secular Society, which has committed $150,000 toward essential dental equipment for AHCDC’s new dental clinic addition—but only if the community can match the contribution. This restricted funding will equip seven brand-new dental operatories currently under construction, allowing AHCDC to significantly expand access to compassionate, high-quality dental care for underserved residents across fourteen counties in Southwest Virginia. At the completion of this project, AHCDC will expand to a total of 21 dental operatories to serve the underserved in Southwest Virginia.
“This commitment from The Secular Society is both a generous and an extraordinary opportunity,” said Rachel Helton, Executive Director of AHCDC. “It means that every dollar donated will go twice as far. Currently, AHCDC has 3,100 individuals in need of a dental appointment. During this time of year, as we think of those in need, I hope the community will help us meet our match goal of $150,000 and help us cross this important finish line on this $1,300,000 project.”

At Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Charities, we see every day how a healthy smile can restore dignity, confidence, and opportunity to patients in Southwest Virginia who have gone far too long without access to dental care. Across Southwest Virginia, thousands of individuals live with preventable pain and untreated dental disease simply because they cannot afford care, have transportation barriers, or lack dental insurance. 3,100 patients are on a waiting list for a dental appointment at Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Center.

More than 8,000 patients served. More than 100,000 procedures completed. Twenty-nine new dentists trained - 8 stayed in the region!

R. Miller, DDS, one of the founding prosthodontists of the Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Center, ensures the
underinsured and uninsured neighbors in Southwest Virginia have access to reliable, quality dental care—rather than waiting months for relief at pop-up clinics. He’s donating a $10,000 award received from and Life back to AHCDC to expand care even further.
