Thank you to everyone who joined The Nature Conservancy Virginia at Abingdon Cinemall for an inspiring evening exploring the hidden world of caterpillars and their vital role in healthy ecosystems. Shout out to the volunteers that worked the information tables with the Virginia Master Naturalist Holston Rivers Chapter, Wild Ones Appalachian Highlands, and The Nature Conservancy. A big thank you to Jude C**t appearing as our giant caterpillar.

This beautifully produced film by Jeff McKay featured stunning cinematography, fascinating science, and insightful commentary from renowned naturalists Doug Tallamy, Sam Jaffe, and David Wagner. 🌍 Happy Earth Day from the Virginia Master Naturalist – Holston Rivers Chapter!

Earth Day is a reminder that caring for our local lands and waters starts close to home. You can help protect Southwest Virginia’s natural beauty by taking a few simple actions:

🌱 Plant native trees, shrubs, and pollinator plants
💧 Reduce runoff—use rain barrels and avoid fertilizers near streams
🚯 Pack out trash and pick up litter when you’re outdoors
🌊 Protect rivers and streams by keeping them clean and undisturbed
🤝 Volunteer with local conservation and education efforts

Together, we can steward the natural resources that make the Holston Rivers region such a special place to live. 💚
