Honey extraction season is just around the corner, and we've got a great program lined up. This month we're screening an instructional video on the extraction process, followed by a member Q&A — perfect for getting your questions answered before you pull your first supers of the year.

Bees are swarming! If you're a paid member, you have access to swarms reported to our website via the Swarmed app. There have already been two reported in this area so far. If you're not a member, it's only $10 per year to join!

We still need a few more volunteers to man our booth at the Washington County VA Master Gardeners Garden Faire this weekend! We especially need volunteers from 2:30-4:30 on both Friday and Saturday, but there are a couple of other slots where we have only one lonely volunteer. If you can, please consider helping. This is a great opportunity to share your love and knowledge of bees and beekeeping!

We're looking forward to having our booth at the Washington County VA Master Gardeners Garden Faire April 10th and 11th in Abingdon. We'll be looking for volunteers to help man the booth and talk about our favorite topic - honeybees, of course! - with Garden Faire attendees. Save the date, and we'll be reaching out with a sign up link soon!

Join us Monday, March 2nd at 6:30pm at the SWVA Higher Ed Center for our March meeting. Local beekeeper Jerome Blakenship will be joined by Conservation Police Officer Cory Garderis of the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources to talk about bees, bears, and how you can keep one from becoming a tasty snack for the other. We hope to see you there!

Bee a mentor! We have new beekeepers in Nickelsville, Blackwater, Marion, Sugar Grove, VA and Jonesborough, TN from our beginner's course looking for mentors. If you'd like to help one of these new beekeepers get started, please send us a message!

We need volunteers! We have two opportunities to represent HBA and spread the word about beekeeping on Earth Day. We need volunteers for a beekeeping demo at Hungry Mother State Park, and to have a table at the Abingdon Earth Day celebration. For those enrolled in the Beginner's Beekeeping Course, we'll be learning about honeybee diseases for tonight's session - a critical topic to know about for your first year. We'll meet in the same auditorium at the Higher Ed center where we met for the first session, at 6 pm. See you there!
