Abilene Fly Fishers

Abilene Fly Fishers Abilene Fly Fishers (AFF) is a fly fishing club in Abilene, Texas, USA. We all have respect and admiration for any one in the Armed Forces.

It is our desire to promote the sport of fly fishing because we have all been touched by the peacefulness and exhilaration of fly fishing in stunning places. OUR STORY

Abilene Fly Fishers has another story - Our story is simple – a group of friends came together after hearing about the concept of fly fishing helping injured Veterans. Several of our members are veterans and many of us have relativ

es that served. HAVS (Healing Adventures for Veterans and Survivors) is our sister organization and is a unique, community-based, non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to the physical and psychological rehabilitation of active duty military personnel and veterans with disabilities through the therapeutic benefits of the sport of fly fishing. (There is no minimum percentage of disability to qualify.) We hope to begin meeting soon in 2021 after things become safer. We will practice fly casting and will begin fly tying and rod building activities soon. As we continue to build relationships and skills, we will plan various outings to fly fish. If you are a disabled veteran or disabled active duty military and are interested in the sport of fly fishing, please message us here. We would love for you to join us and begin learning about the peacefulness and calming effect of fly fishing in some of the most beautiful places in the USA. If you are interested in volunteering, please message us here also and we will be in contact with you.

Great news for Abilene. According to their schedule, Cal Young Park will have trout stocked 12/1/25 and 2/3/26.

The Rainbow Trout stocking schedule has been released! 🐟
Each winter, Texas Parks and Wildlife stocks rainbow trout in about 100 locations — many across the Brazos River Basin!

Rainbow trout aren’t native to Texas but are extremely popular among anglers. They’re easy to catch and don’t require the sophisticated equipment that other fish do, have a unique and colorful look, and are incredibly tasty — making them a fun catch for beginner and seasoned anglers alike.

Since the rainbow trout thrive in the cold and can’t handle Texas’ warm water temperatures, TPWD stocks them in the winter, providing anglers with opportunities to get out on the water during the colder months.

Will you be fishing for rainbow trout this year? 🎣
