Back before there were grants, meetings, systems, or official lanes to move through… WTHR was surviving off pure heart and hustle. We were getting naloxone wherever we could, and a whole lot of that came from Mark Kinzly and Charles Ray Thibodeaux — the two standing front right in this photo.

On this fine day in November 2017 it was more than just a training. It was a turning point for West Texas. That day we met the people behind T.O.N.I., and it changed the trajectory of our work forever. Mark and Charles didn’t just hand us supplies — they poured knowledge, trust, and belief into us when harm reduction out here was still misunderstood and barely hanging on by duct tape and determination.

Eventually, they trained us to become Trainers of Trainers ourselves. The very first training WTHR ever brought to West Texas was the T.O.N.I. training. That ripple effect is still moving through this region today every time someone carries naloxone, reverses an overdose, or decides a life is worth saving.

West Texas Harm Reduction owes a deep debt of gratitude to Mark Kinzly and Charles Thibodeaux. Real pioneers. Real believers. Love is the method.

We see you. I see you.
Every tent, every cold night, every Narcan save, every small victory that nobody else celebrates, we see it all.
And just because leadership gets lost in politics doesn’t mean we stop doing what we do.
We still pull up with water, jackets, hygiene kits, and respect.
We still fight for housing like it’s oxygen.
We still protect each other, lift each other, and love each other, because that's the culture we built out here.
I’m gonna keep saying it:
You matter. Your life matters. Your story matters.
And no administration, old, new, red, blue, whatever, is gonna stop us from showing up for our neighbors.
So if you’re out here doing the work with me, stay solid.
If you’re surviving the streets, stay strong.
If you’re in recovery or still in the struggle, keep going, you’re not alone.
We don’t do this for politics.
We do this because love is the method.
And we ain’t quitting.
Ever.
