BlackBerry and Waffles Adopted together! 💜
In March of 2023, BlackBerry came to Rescue the Animals after being hit by a car here in Abilene at only 3 months old. Her leg was shattered so badly that she needed surgery to save it. While the surgery helped, it left her little foot permanently deformed.
Her recovery was long and during that healing time she just grew up at RTA. She became part of the family here. Back then we had a goat at the shelter recovering from a leg injury , and BlackBerry absolutely adored spending every day and night with her goat friend Leo.
We shared her story over and over. We posted her on social media, talked to rescue partners, and searched constantly for the right home, but somehow, BlackBerry kept getting overlooked. She became our longest resident.
Kimm Jacobs a friend of RTA is an incredible volunteer with an amazing network of animal lovers, and she refused to give up on BlackBerry. She kept sharing her photo and story until finally the perfect family saw her.
And the best part? They were willing to take Waffles too, so BlackBerry wouldn’t leave without her friend!
Kimm coordinated their entire journey to New Jersey 24 legs of transport, volunteers donating their time, and two overnight stays to get these girls safely to their new life.
After 3 years of being homeless, BlackBerry finally has a home. A real home. And she gets to spend it with her best friend, Waffles.
This is why rescue matters. ❤️
