Dyess Fire Department stands with Altus AFB

The Dyess Fire Department mourns the loss of Aaron Wescott, civilian firefighter assigned to the 97th Civil Engineer Squadron at Altus Air Force Base.

Aaron’s continued service after his time in uniform reflects the heart of a firefighter—selfless, committed, and dedicated to community. The bond within the fire service is strong, and losses like this are felt far beyond one department.

We extend our deepest condolences to Aaron’s family, loved ones, and the entire Altus AFB Fire Department and 97th CES. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

šŸ”„ Space Heater Safety Reminder šŸ”„

As temperatures drop, space heaters become a common cause of home fires. A few simple precautions can keep you and your family safe:

āœ… Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn (curtains, bedding, furniture).
āœ… Never leave a space heater unattended, especially while sleeping.
āœ… Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet—never into extension cords or power strips.
āœ… Use heaters with automatic shut-off and tip-over protection.
āœ… Turn heaters off before leaving the room.
āŒ Do not use space heaters in bathrooms or near water.

šŸš’ Remember: The safest space heater is the one used properly. If you need warmth, stay alert and stay safe.

See that beautiful baby boy and his smiling mom in the picture?
When he was born in June of 2025, he wasn’t breathing. He had no pulse.

9-1-1 was activated, and your Dyess Firefighters responded without hesitation. A team of seven firefighters from A-Shift went to work—performing CPR and doing everything they are trained to do. Because of their actions, that little boy was successfully resuscitated.

This job brings us face-to-face with tragedy far more often than we’d like. It’s the reality of the career. It’s the weight of the calling.

But that day wasn’t tragedy.
That day was a miracle.

Today, he’s a perfectly healthy, happy child—and getting to see him stop by the station reminded us why we do this. Moments like these make every hour of training, every drop of sweat, and every heartbeat under the badge worth it.

This is why we serve.
This is why we train.
This is why we never stop answering the call. šŸš’ā¤ļø
