This week at the Chamber:
Our team members attended the special City Council meeting to learn more about the upcoming Streetscape project. Born out of the City Center plan that over 2,500 Abilenians helped put together in 2017, the project will help make the main street in our cultural district more pedestrian-friendly. The Growth Alliance’s Abilene Downtown Initiative looks forward to progress and encourages everyone to begin thinking about how we can help support the merchants the project will impact.
The Abilene Regional Growth Alliance team participated in the Abilene Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting on Tuesday. The TAC makes planning recommendations for the Transportation Policy Board (TPB) regarding issues such as MPO-generated documents, project selection criteria, special transportation planning studies, and other topics for immediate action.
On Wednesday, we hosted our new Board Members and volunteers for an orientation session on maximizing their role as a leader and volunteers in the Chamber.
On Thursday, the Chamber’s young professionals program kicked off its West Texas Young Professionals Leadership Summit planning meeting. Summit is scheduled for April 2024 – go ahead and mark your calendars!
We ended the week with the Chamber’s Hispanic Business Council Executive Committee planning for their TWO upcoming events. We hope you’ve marked your calendar for the inaugural Minority Leadership Development Symposium (sponsored by First Financial Bank) on Oct. 12 and the 15th Anniversary of Business Mercado on Oct. 14 (sponsored by Happy State Bank, Telemundo Abilene and Arrow Ford).
And that’s a wrap for this week at the Chamber! Abilene, you’re looking great. To gain a dedicated partner on your business journey, contact a team member today!
