We are very proud to introduce the state’s newest Certified Vet Assistant! Katey Smith has worked hard for the last four years, putting in class time, clinic time and hands on skills to to be able to take her test. She scored a 94 out of 100! Thank you to Dr. Rita Ikeler at Tuscola Veterinary Clinic for all of your support and help getting Katey where she needed to be. This girl graduated last week and next week will move to Florida to start the next chapter of her life. We wish her all the best!

We are nearing the end! It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks in our Ag department. Today we traveled to the Area IV Convention at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. We took our current and previous officer teams to vote on Area and State Officers and attend the business session. Last week we had our last Fry-day of the year and cared for baby goats and chickens. We also cooked for our amazing staff for teacher appreciation week. Our awards banquet honored student achievements and parent and community partners who support us throughout the year. The school year never really ends for FFA kids. They already have livestock projects in the barn and we will begin planning for state convention and the 2026-27 school year.

Cody, Shay and Isabelle from Camp Able came to speak to our students about volunteer opportunities at their facility. They were also able to expose them to new career fields within therapeutic riding. Thank you to our community partners who are willing to speak with AFNR students and partner with us for new opportunities.

Poultry Science in action. Students in Livestock/Poultry Production, Veterinary Science and Principles of AFNR have been studying the egg to chick cycle. We have hatched 8 baby chicks and are waiting on 3 ducks. As those eggs developed and hatched, it became clear that there 6 that would not hatch. Our classes opened the eggs and each one became unviable at a different point in development. This was a concrete example of the cycle of development and how just the smallest of circumstances, temperature, humidity, malformation, etc. can affect the outcome of life.
