Don't be the idiot who finds a snake and has to poke it with a stick. Snakes have an important job to do. Leave them alone and let them do it!

Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter: Feb. 22, 1962 - Sept. 4, 2006

Eighteen years ago today the world lost a great and influential person. Steve Irwin led the way in Wildlife and Environmental Conservation. He was a great voice for animals who are often given a negative image by the mainstream media.

We can continue his legacy by educating others to learn to appreciate the beauty and importance of all the creatures we share our planet with.

IT’S TIME TO END THE WAR

Compared to most other snakes, rattlesnakes are fairly fragile, have relatively weak musculature, and crawl much slower than average. Without their venom, it would be virtually impossible for them to subdue their prey or defend themselves against predators. Even a small mouse would prove a formidable and potentially dangerous opponent to a rattlesnake without venom.

This venom, which is an absolute necessity for the rattlesnake's survival, is ironically also the primary reason for their demise. Too many humans, despite having arms, legs, opposable thumbs, vastly superior intelligence, and the ability to make and use tools, still identify the rattlesnake as a life-threatening enemy.

Whether it be a battle of wits, speed, or strength, the odds are stacked heavily in our favor. Isn't it funny that rattlesnakes, even with their tiny brains, know this. For a rattlesnake, biting a human means almost certain death, and they will do so ONLY as a last resort, when defending themselves. We need to realize that we have made the terrible mistake of overestimating the danger of these snakes, and wildly underestimating their value.

Please help us remind our snake-fearing friends that rattlesnakes save many more human lives in a single year than they have ever taken in a decade. It's time to call a truce to our one-sided war against snakes.

Educate. Inspire. Conserve.

It's been awhile but we rescued and relocated this little beauty today. This is a young, non-venomous Diamondback Water Snake.
The adults are often confused for the venomous Cottonmouth/Water Moccasin.

Today is the 1st Day of Fall! 🍁 As temperatures start to get cooler, animals will seek shelter in non ideal locations. We understand that people don’t want mice, snakes, lizards..in their home. However, please NEVER use sticky traps or rodenticides. They are inhumane and the animal suffers a slow and painful death. Instead use live traps, ultrasonic repellers, and unpleasant scents. Just a friendly reminder that we share this planet with our animal friends.

Other humane options but not limited to the following:

*Peppermint Oil
*Steel Wool
*Rodent Repellent sprays sold online
*Irish Spring bars cut up
*Rolling Log Mouse Traps (no water)
*Catch & Release Mouse Traps
