Abilene-Omitama Sister City

Abilene-Omitama Sister City The Sister City relationship between Abilene, Kansas, and Omitama, Ibaraki, Japan Omitama and Abilene agreed to continue the relationship as Sister Cities.

This relationship began in 1984 between the cities of Abilene, Kansas and what was then Minori, Ibaraki, Japan. On March 27, 2006, Minori was consolidated with two other communities, Ogawa and Tamari, to form the new city of Omitama. The Abilene-Omitama Sister City board is an official city board constituted by the Abilene City Commission. Board members are residents of Abilene who volunteer and

are appointed by the City Commission for a term of three years. Current Board members are: Mary Zey, Corina Ryland, Kevin Unruh, Andrea Taylor, Bill Marshall, Jeffery Hagga, Jerry Rankin and Audrey Biggs. Friends of Sister City is an auxiliary group composed of Abilene residents and others who support the work of the Sister City Board.
