GLOBAL SAMARITAN NEEDS YOUR HELP!!

Today, Global Samaritan Resources was offered an amazing opportunity! We were offered a truckload of product for our Non-Profit Resource Center, which benefits more than two dozen organizations in Abilene. The truckload is filled with hygiene and toiletries from Proctor & Gamble. The product is free...tens of thousands of dollars worth of products which are needed by our Abilene community partners! However, we need to cover the freight costs to bring the truck from Ohio to Texas...the cost is roughly $4,000.

The Community Book Room, sponsored by Atmos Energy, will be open today from 9:00 to Noon. Come stop by Global Samaritan Resources and get some free books as we wind down our summer book room events.

Starting in September, we will transition back to once a month book room events on the first Wednesday of each momth.

Got plans for your Wednesday morning? Come join us for our last Summer Community Book Room, sponsored by Atmos Energy! We will be open from 9:00 to Noon!

After tomorrow, we will be taking a break for a month and will resume our Community Book Room events in September and switch to being open monthly instead of weekly!

INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE

Do you know someone taking a gap year or in college who is interested in a part-time internship during the fall/spring semesters? Someone who is between 17 and 25 and looking to gain experience while serving the Abilene community?

We are looking for individuals who want to become AmeriCorps Members and serve as interns at Global Samaritan Resources. In return for their service they would earn a college scholarship and a bi-weekly living stipend.

Applicants must be 17 years or older, a US citizen, clear a federal background check and be willing to serve at least 14-22 hours per week.

WOW! What a week! This week, Global Samaritan Resources was able to bless 289 educators with supplies to help get their classrooms ready for a new year!

As we wrap up a week of serving, we would be remiss without thanking the great folks at Directors Investment Group who came out and served our teachers. They stocked tubs with supplies, they welcomed teachers, they assisted them in finding resources they were looking for, they checked them out, pushed carts to the teachers cars and when it was all over, they folded down tables, wipes down shelves, swept the floors, picked up the trash, collected the traffic cones, and helped us shut it all down for the year.

To the 28 servants from Directors Investment Group, THANK YOU! You are always a blessing to the team at Global Samaritan Resources and our area teachers! And to the executives at Directors Investment Group who put such great emphasis on serving...thank you for leading!

Today was another fantastic day at Global Samaritan Resources
as we welcome 102 more teachers to the third day of our annual Teacher Resource Room, sponsored by Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union!

What an amazing day we had at Global Samaritan Resources!!

Today, was the second day of our annual Teacher Resource Room, sponsored by Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union and we had the honor of welcoming 123 local teachers from Abilene and Big Country schools.

Teachers each had 30 minutes to go through our Teacher Resource Room and load up their carts with some new and awesome used teaching materials for their classrooms.

Teachers...we hope you have a fantastic year!

And, as always, a HUGE "Thank you" to Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union for sponsoring the event! And a HUGE shout out to Directors Investment Group for sending out two teams today to serve alongside our Global Samaritan Resources staff as we blessed these teachers!

Today, Global Samaritan Resources donated 306 pairs of NEW shoes to AISD-Homeless. These shoes were in addition to the 419 pairs of new shoes we provided at the end of June. That means, over 700 Abilene ISD students will be able to get new shoes before school begins or early in the fall semester!

At Global Samaritan Resources, we love partnering with Darrin Cox and his team at AISD-Homeless to "remove barriers, one student at a time!"

On Friday, Global Samaritan Resources hosted, for the first time, a special Teacher Resource Room, sponsored by Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union for new hire teachers of Abilene ISD. We were able to intentionally reach this subset of educators in our community through a partnership with the Abilene Education Foundation who promoted the special event for Global Samaritan Resources.

We had 25 new hire Abilene ISD teachers register for the event, but only 22 came to the event. The new hires were each given 30 minutes to source items for their classrooms. In total, the 22 teachers received classroom supplies worth $7,796, which is an average of $354 worth of supplies per teacher.

It was a great morning and now, we look forward to welcoming almost 250 teachers from across Abilene and the Big Country this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday for our regular Teacher Resource Room, sponsored by Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union.
