🚨 SCAM ALERT — PLEASE SHARE! 🚨

I received a call today from an elderly woman in our community who had a frightening experience, and I want to make sure others know about it.

She received a phone call from someone claiming to be with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office. The caller told her there was a warrant for her arrest because of jury duty and that she had two citations.

Here’s what made this scam especially convincing:

👉 She had actually received a legitimate jury summons.

So when the caller started talking about jury duty, she had a reason to believe the call might be real.

The scammer told her she could avoid being arrested by paying $4,000 PER citation — $8,000 total.

Thankfully, she didn’t fall for it.

She told them, “Well, you can come arrest me because I don’t have $8,000.”

They immediately hung up.

Please talk to your parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends about this.

⚠️ Law enforcement will NOT call you and demand thousands of dollars to keep you from being arrested for missing jury duty.

⚠️ Never give an unexpected caller your banking, credit card or personal information.

⚠️ Don’t trust caller ID alone. Scammers can make a call appear to come from a legitimate local number or agency.

⚠️ If you're concerned, HANG UP and call the court or law enforcement agency yourself using a phone number you independently verify.

And please remember this:

A REAL jury summons does not make a follow-up phone call demanding money REAL.

Scammers use fear and urgency because they don't want you to stop and think.

STOP. HANG UP. VERIFY.

Please SHARE this one. Someone you know could get this exact call next. 💙

Trust isn’t built overnight. It’s earned—one decision at a time.

At the Better Business Bureau Serving the Big Country, accreditation is about much more than displaying a logo. It’s a commitment to a higher standard.

One of the most valuable benefits of BBB Accreditation doesn't cost our Accredited Businesses a penny.

Every day, consumers visit BBB.org looking for businesses they can trust.

They're searching for roofers.
Plumbers.
Electricians.
Restaurants.
Photographers.
Contractors.
Insurance agencies.
Healthcare providers.

When they choose to search the BBB, they're looking for businesses that have earned a reputation for integrity.

That's where our Accredited Businesses stand apart.

BBB.org works as a trusted referral source, connecting consumers with businesses that have committed to the BBB Standards for Trust.

It's one more way Accreditation helps build credibility, visibility, and opportunity.

Trust isn't just good for consumers.

It's good for business.
