BB Treetop Lover has raced his name into the Wheeling record books.

On Wednesday afternoon, April 1, the Lester Raines Kennel 330-yard super sprinter broke the 3/16th track record when he stopped the clock in 16.50 seconds. Breaking from the five box, BB Treetop Lover grabbed an early lead and never looked back in posting a 2-length victory in a Grade TAA race.

The old mark of 16.65 was set by JS Cowboy Joe (Lester Raines Kennel) on Aug. 2, 2025.

Before JS Cowboy Joe set his mark, another Lester Raines greyhound, Atascocita Santo, and UBX Crackereater (Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel) shared the record with a 16.74 time.

BB Treetop Lover, a May 2023 greyhound out of Shima Shine-Hope’s Triumph, is trained by Joel Roden and owned by Suzanne Blair and Brian Platz.

Congratulations to GLS MAYBANKS for winning the 2026 WV Juvenile Sprint Stake in a romping 30.14. GLS Maybanks is owned by Greg and Louise Strong and races for JS Kennels. Congrats to all connections!

WV greyhound racetracks handled $353 million in 2025

The two greyhound racing tracks in West Virginia, Wheeling Island and Tri-State, handled more than $350 million in 2025 – up $5 million from the amount bet on greyhounds at the two tracks the year before.

The handle represents the amount of money bet on races from on-track patrons, simulcast outlets and online.

Last year, a total of $211,294,430 was bet on Wheeling greyhounds while $142,082,422 was wagered on Tri-State racers. The combined amount was $353,376,852.

In 2024, a total of $210,312,393 was wagered on Wheeling greyhounds while $138,031,435 was bet on Tri-State racers. The combined amount was $348,343,828.

The recipient for the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award is: Kenneth Biehle from Thorndale, TX.

Ken has been in the Greyhound business for 43 years and has raised and raced many greyhounds over the years. He has been a huge supporter of the NGA Spring & Fall Meets and Auctions. Selling most of his greyhounds at the meets. He also raced many years in Texas. He still resides in Thorndale where he has lived most of his life with his late wife Darlene and daughters Holli (Derrick VanWest)& Laci Hooper.

Please join us in celebrating Ken & his family and friends at the Greyhound Hall of Fame on May 21, 2026 at 7pm for the ceremony.

The NGA All Stars team follows the All American tradition and is appointed by the NGA Board of Directors at the end of each year.
