☀️ HEAT AWARENESS: STAY COOL, STAY HYDRATED! 💧
Texas heat can become dangerous quickly. Whether you’re working outside, exercising, traveling, or enjoying time outdoors, taking precautions can help prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
💧 Hydrate early and often
Drink water regularly throughout the day—don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
If you’re sweating heavily for an extended period, consider an electrolyte drink to help replace lost salts.
Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine when you’re spending time in the heat.
🌡️ Know the warning signs of heat illness
Heat exhaustion: Heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, cool/clammy skin, and muscle cramps.
🚨 Heat stroke is a medical emergency: Confusion, altered behavior, loss of consciousness, seizures, hot skin, and a very high body temperature can occur.
If you suspect heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move the person to a cooler area while help is on the way. Begin cooling them as quickly as possible.
🧢 Protect yourself
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
• Use sunscreen and a hat when outdoors.
• Never leave children, elderly individuals, or pets unattended in a vehicle—even for a short time.
• Check on friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.
A little preparation can prevent a heat-related emergency. Stay cool. Drink up. Look out for one another. ❤️
