The City Hall team and City Manager Dave McNeil ask our community to please keep Mayor Schaunaman and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate an unimaginable and deeply difficult time.
At the request of the Mayor and his family, we ask everyone to respect their privacy and give them the space they need to grieve. No details regarding this tragic event will be shared at this time.
We understand that many in our community care deeply about the Mayor and his family and will want to express their concern and support. The most meaningful way we can support them right now is by honoring their wishes, respecting their privacy, and refraining from speculation or seeking additional information.
Please keep the Mayor, his family, and all those impacted in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. We ask our community and members of the media to approach this situation with compassion, patience, and the utmost respect.

With the growing housing insecurity, Aberdeen Housing Authority staff wanted to assist beyond our assistance programs. All donations will be given to the The Aberdeen Homeless Coalition to aid where needed. Sunnie Day Outreach

Beginning Wednesday, July 22, 2026, ZONE 3 will be affected by the chip sealing of city streets. This process is expected to take approximately 4 weeks to finish with weather permitting. ‘No Parking’ signs will be placed on city streets one day before the crew begins work in this area. City street sweeping equipment will be used in this process which will affect the street sweeping schedule. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes on these days.

The Aberdeen Housing Authority Office will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of the holiday. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22, 2026.

The Mosquito Control division of the City of Aberdeen will be conducting a city-wide ground spray for mosquitoes on Thursday, June 18th between the hours of 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM.

Mosquito Control surveillance program has identified West Nile Virus in Aberdeen. You can reduce the risk of getting West Nile Virus by eliminating mosquito habitat around your property, applying insect repellents, and wearing proper clothing when outdoors.

The adulticiding equipment is noisy and travels at 10 mph. The mosquito control trucks are identified and travel with a flashing yellow light. To ensure spray effectiveness during the spraying operations, the wind must be 15 mph or less and no inclement weather present. Winds higher than 15 mph or inclement weather will result in the spray being suspended until conditions improve.

Congratulations to our Compliance Manager, Amanda Kamphuis, on graduating from the Leadership Aberdeen, Class of 2026. Leadership Aberdeen is a program put on by the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce providing opportunities to expand leadership skills, share experiences, getting involved in the community, and building lasting connections. Check out the Leadership Aberdeen project, Heart for the Homeless, a community mural bringing education and awareness to Aberdeen and supporting our local Homeless Coalition of Aberdeen, SD

Class may be over for the Leadership Aberdeen Class of 2026, but their project is on going!

Heart for the Homeless mural pieces are being painted by local organizations and the final mural will be on display for the first time during the Aberdeen Downtown Association Wine Walk on May 21st at the Chamber.
