Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is using his powers to bring justice to unsung heroes who risked their own freedom to help enslaved Black people escape the horrific bo***ge of slavery between the 1830s and 1860s.

Beshear, a two-term Democratic governor and potential 2028 presidential candidate, signed an executive order granting posthumous pardons for 43 individuals who were convicted under state law and served time in prison for helping those enslaved escape to freedom.

Gov. Beshear acknowledged in his executive order that the fight to ensure the birthright of freedom and equality for all Americans is one that continues today.

A jury convicted Grayson of second-degree murder after he claimed self-defense. The case sparked national protests and renewed calls for police accountability, including support for the proposed Sonya Massey Act aimed at strengthening law enforcement hiring standards.

The NAACP has been fighting back through policy, the courts, and fierce advocacy, but the work — and discussions around it — must continue.

Ahead of , on June 17, at 5 p.m. ET, NAACP's own Abre' Conner will join Seattle-based activist and digital creator Evan Yells at Clouds ( on Instagram) for an IG Live conversation on his page, diving into how data center fights are "localized freedom work" and democracy in action.
