As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we're honored to share a reflection from a Clubhouse graduate about recovery, resilience, and the power of hope.
A semicolon tattoo is a widely recognized symbol of hope, resilience, and mental health awareness. This graduate obtained theirs to serve as a personal reminder of their journey and a symbol of support for others who may be struggling. Over time, recovery became more than healing—it became an opportunity to better understand themselves and to help others feel seen and supported.
"I wanted a non-verbal way to identify myself as a safe person to talk to about mental health," they shared. "I've felt the lowest of lows and will never forget who was there for me. Now, I can show others without saying a word; I've been there, and there is always hope."
The graduate also reflected on the challenges that often accompany growth. In recovery, moving forward can mean stepping outside of what feels familiar and comfortable, even when it's difficult.
"It is easy to do what is comfortable, to do what feels safe," they said. "You have to find comfort in what is uncomfortable, like the soreness after a difficult workout. To grow, something has to break, just a little bit, so that it can heal stronger."
Their message is a reminder that healing is rarely a straight path. The journey can be difficult, but it can also lead to strength, purpose, and new possibilities.
"That destination is whoever you want to be, and that journey is whatever you do to make sure you get there."
This Mental Health Awareness Month, we thank this graduate for sharing their story and helping remind others that recovery is possible, growth is possible, and there is always hope.
