Today, October 4, we celebrate our Presentation Sister’s Foundation Day. In 1886, Mother John, Sister Aloysius, and Sister Joseph established the foundation of what was to become the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Aberdeen, SD. From its cradle in Fargo, ND, these three zealous Sisters answered the call of Bishop Marty to open a school in Aberdeen.
Each year we celebrate this special day of our founding.
BEING PRESENTATION INCLUDES:
• Passion for those made poor and for changing the structures of society that make and keep people poor
• Zeal – doing “all in her power” to change the way things are for those made poor
• Courage
• Trust in Divine Providence
This was the passion of our foremothers and this is our BEING PRESENTATION.

During this Season of Creation, we bring attention to ecosystem and biodiversity restoration and protection. We are called to restore land in our churches, homes, and communities. There are many initiatives which we can engage with: A Decade of Climate justice has been declared by both the World Council of Churches and the World Council of Reformed Churches; there are online platforms such as Laudato Si’ Action Platform, Anglican Communion Forest and national programs such as Green Church - Eglise Verte or Eco Church - A Rocha International.

Let us overcome our fear and step into the water of God’s love - to be part of the River of Transformation for the world, to see the literal healing and renewal of creation and the blessing of the Earth.

During this Season of Creation, may we draw spiritual inspiration from Creation:

Through contemplation of the natural world created by God (Job 7 - 12), we are invited to move from domination to humility, from exploitation to care, and from short-term profit to long-term flourishing. This transformation is both spiritual and practical, requiring a rethinking of values, economic systems, and educational priorities.

We invite you to join us in prayer as we continue to celebrate of the Season of Creation, September 1 - October 4.

God of creation, you portrayed God's life-giving water flowing from the temple of God. The river grows deeper and deeper restoring barren land, reviving waters, and sustaining flourishing ecosystems. You call us in a special way during this Season of Creation to exercise our human responsibility to recognize ecological damage, embrace interconnectedness, and immerse ourselves, actively safeguarding and working for the renewal of creation so that creation's healing and human well-being may flourish together.

Join us in celebrating the 2026 Season of Creation

This year’s theme, “Living Water,” draws on the biblical vision of Ezekiel 47, where life-giving water flows from God’s sanctuary and transforms a wounded landscape. At its heart, the theme connects faith, ecological healing, and human responsibility. The image’s flowing water symbolizes God’s renewing presence - bringing healing to rivers and seas, restoring the land, sustaining biodiversity, and creating conditions in which life can flourish. It also speaks powerfully to our present reality: amid ecological degradation, climate challenges, displacement, and loss, “Living Water” invites us to become stewards and participants in God’s work of renewal. Creation is not merely something to use; it is a sacred community of life entrusted to our care.

As we celebrate 250 years of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we give thanks for the enduring legacy of Nano Nagle. With kindness, courage and everyday acts of justice, Nano founded the congregation guided by her call to serve through “not words, but deeds.”
Today, as Presentation people in North America, we continue to shine Nano’s light through shared prayer and compassionate action—reaching out in love and service to our neighbors and a world in need.
In Iowa, hospitality remains a cherished Presentation value as sisters warmly welcome all who come through their doors, creating spaces of kindness, belonging and hope. In South Dakota, sisters put Nano Nagle's spirit of compassion into action by volunteering at a backpack and school supply giveaway, helping ensure local students begin the school year prepared, confident and ready to learn. By easing the burden of back-to-school expenses for families, they help create opportunities for every child to succeed. Through these simple yet meaningful acts of service, we continue to live Nano's legacy of caring for our neighbors through "not words, but deeds."

On the West Coast, the sisters at Presentation Learning Center in California carry forward the work of justice by teaching English and preparing immigrants for U.S. citizenship, empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to build secure and fulfilling lives. Together, these ministries reflect the enduring spirit of Presentation people who continue to answer the call to serve with “not words, but deeds."
