James Valley Model Railroad Association

James Valley Model Railroad Association The JVMRRA was established in 1987 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to promote model railroading and serve aficionados of the "Hub City's" great railroading history.

The James Valley Model Railroad Association was formed on November 3, 1987 when a group of twenty-two model railroad buffs met in the Northwest Public Service meeting room. The Association charter was adapted and signed by twenty-two members on February 15, 1988. Ten of these original members are still active in the association today.

We are in search of photos of railroad structures in Aberdeen circa 1911. We are assisting the Dacotah Prairie Museum with their new display featuring Aberdeen and the railroads and buildings from that time period. We also are looking for photos of rolling stock, locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars in particular. All photos will be copied and returned to you.

A couple more private owner HO wood re**er from kits. Parrot Potatoes is a Branchline and the Rath is Train Miniature. Easy to assemble into nice looking cars. I used Proto 33 inch wheels and KD148 couplers on both. Found them on Ebay.

Two different manufacturers, the one with the blackened hardware is a Branchline car on an Accurail body. The other is a Train Miniature car. Bought them on Ebay for a reasonable price. Added Proto 33 inch metal wheels and Kadee 148 couplers to both. Other then my normal treatment of the trucks, wheels and couplers I plan no additional weathering.

Here are two examples of the Brookside car. MTC1857 is a Roundhouse ready to run from their Golden Age of Railroading, dated 2008. The MTC1833 is built from a Train Miniature of La Mesa kit dated middle 1980's. In the early 1990's when I first started using eBay, I saw the TM version selling for as much as $79. I have no idea why unless that car was scarce. I have never seen the Roundhouse car on eBay. Picked mine up at a swap meet in Sioux Falls for about $15. I like both cars.
