"Come From Away" is the real-life story of what happened with 38 planes carrying more than 7,000 passengers from all over the world landed in Gander and local leaders and residents banded together to welcome the "plane people" and provide food, shelter, and comfort during an uncertain time. Courtney says this true story shows how real positivity can grow out of terrible tragedy. He plays Claude, the Mayor of Gander - pictured here with castmate Claire Vetter as Janice, a news reporter.

ACT is pleased to share this story from The Aberdeen Insider - about ACT's "COME FROM AWAY," with 6 performances this week - starting Tuesday, June 9. The musical is based on true events that happened on the day of the September 11 terror attacks - when a small town in Canada welcomed thousands of passengers from all over the world whose planes landed because American air space closed.

In the article, ACT actor Courtney Rott explains why the show resonates with audiences:
" 'When I first saw (“Come From Away”), it automatically became one of my favorite shows,' Rott said. He explained that Gander was once one of the largest airports in the world, making it a natural landing point for diverted flights on 9/11. He said the show carries a message of hope as the town and surrounding communities join together in the midst of tragedy to provide food, medicine, beds and clothes for the unexpected visitors. 'I want people to see the story, remember how we came together and how everybody kind of focused on a common cause. I think it is a story that will really transcend today,' Rott said."

Aberdeen Community Theatre is accepting applications for the Donald H. Hall Scholarship from students who will attend Northern State University during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Applications are due by noon on June 1, 2026. Scholarship awards range from $250 to $500.

Applicants for the scholarship must have previous experience, onstage or offstage, with ACT or Young People’s Theatre, and must plan to be involved in theater at NSU or ACT in the future. The scholarship honors Donald H. Hall, a co-founder of Aberdeen Community Theatre. The scholarship nurtures the connection between the two organizations by encouraging student participation in programs at both ACT and NSU.

Aberdeen Community Theatre is pleased to support the Downtown Art Project - a project displaying artwork by local artists in the windows of Main Street businesses each summer. The project is sponsored by the Aberdeen Area Arts Council, and the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation, with the the Knight Foundation.
